A three-year-old boy and a 26-year-old woman suffered serious injuries recently when the station wagon in which they were riding crashed into a tanker truck on New Hampshire’s Route 4 in Chichester, according to the Union-Leader.
The crash occurred when the station wagon drifted across the center line on Route 4 near the King Road intersection. It sideswiped a tractor-trailer coming from the other direction, which was carrying propane. Investigators are continuing to search for evidence to explain why the station wagon crossed the center line.
The station wagon’s 26-year-old driver and the young boy who was riding in the vehicle were both taken to local hospitals, where they are listed in serious condition. The two injured people do not appear to be related to one another. Due to the damage from the wreck, rescue workers needed over an hour to extricate the driver from the car, after which she was airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. The driver of the truck was not injured.
Due to the damage from the crash, the propane truck was not driveable, so the company had to send another truck to transfer the propane. Luckily, no propane or other hazardous materials were released into the environment by the accident.
