New Hampshire police officers are trained to look for several different clues to determine if a driver has been drinking. If you’re pulled over by a police officer, keep these tips in mind regardless of whether or not you have been drinking.

  1. Pull over in a safe place. Slow down and pull over gradually. An officer who suspects you of DWI may presume that stopping quickly or erratically or pulling over in an unsafe place means you are intoxicated.
  2. Keep your hands in plain sight and be polite. Police officers are trained to protect themselves. They may respond with force if threatened by any sudden movements. Likewise, police officers are less likely to arrest you if you are calm and respectful. Keep both hands where the officer can see them, and speak in an even voice.
