Rochester Hit-and-Run Leaves Pedestrian With Minor Injuries

By admin on June 24, 2011

A pedestrian accident in Rochester recently left one person with minor injuries and sent police looking for the car and driver who caused the accident, according to a recent news report from WMUR.

The pedestrian, a 60-year-old Rochester resident, was crossing North Main Street near George and Ed’s Store when he was hit by a black sedan. Witnesses tried to get the car to stop, but it kept going and turned down Pine Street. The injured pedestrian was transported to Frisbie Hospital. He is expected to recover from his injuries.

Local police ask Rochester residents to keep an eye out for the car that may have hit the pedestrian. Based on witness descriptions, the car is black and may have tinted windows and New Hampshire license plates. It may also have damage to the front end, where it hit the pedestrian.

When a car and a pedestrian collide, the pedestrian almost always suffers injuries. The size and weight of the car protect most occupants from the impact with the pedestrian, but the pedestrian has little or no protection from the impact of the car. Severe injuries and even death can result.

Six Tips for Summer Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety

By admin on June 10, 2011

In summer, many New Hampshire residents head outdoors to enjoy the beautiful weather and the longer days. If you’re going out for a walk or a bike ride, these six safety tips can help you avoid becoming the victim of a bicycle or pedestrian accident in New Hampshire:

  1. Stay visible. Wear bright or reflective clothing so that drivers can see you more easily. If biking or walking at dusk or after dark, always carry a light.
  2. Take care around parked cars. If you’re walking between parked cars, drivers may not see you until you step into their path. Bicyclists may be hit when the door on a parked car opens, so leave space when passing parked cars on a bicycle.
  3. Wear proper equipment. Bicyclists should wear a helmet and close-fitting clothing that won’t get caught in the bike’s wheels, pedals or chain. Pedestrians should choose sturdy shoes and clothing that protects them from the sun, especially if they plan to walk a long time.
  4. Stay hydrated. Both pedestrians and bicyclists can avoid dehydration and stay alert by drinking plenty of water. Drink water consistently - don’t wait until thirst kicks in.
  5. Keep your energy up. A snack containing protein and fiber, like an energy bar or trail mix, can help both pedestrians and bicyclists keep their energy up, which allows them to stay alert and be able to move more quickly to avoid potential accidents.
  6. Obey traffic rules. Pedestrians should cross at marked crosswalks whenever possible, and pay attention to signals that indicate when pedestrians may cross. Bicyclists must follow the same rules as drivers, including stopping at stop signs and red lights and traveling on the right-hand side of the road.

Keeping safety in mind can help you avoid many accidents, but it can’t make negligent or reckless drivers behave safely. If you’ve been injured in a bicycle accident or pedestrian accident, the experienced New Hampshire pedestrian accident lawyers at Tenn And Tenn, P.A. may be able to help. Everett Turnpike Car Accident - Officer Narrowly Misses Injury

By admin on September 2, 2010

A New Hampshire state police officer narrowly escaped being struck by a speeding pickup truck on the Everett Turnpike recently, according to local news station WMUR.

The officer was cleaning up road debris on the northbound side of the turnpike. At about 10:36 a.m., a fast-moving pickup truck swerved around a slower vehicle and drove into the median where the officer was standing. The officer protected herself by jumping over the barrier in the median, but the truck hit both the barrier and the vehicle it was apparently trying to pass.

The pickup truck’s driver, a 22-year-old Chelmsford, Massachusetts resident, was charged with reckless driving. The pickup’s driver, the officer, and everyone in the slower vehicle escaped injury.

You can help protect yourself and police officers from injury by proceeding carefully when you see a police car with its lights flashing. Slow down and move to another lane. If there is no other lane, move as far away from the police car as possible without entering an oncoming lane of traffic or endangering yourself and your passengers. Police officers frequently have to exit their cars, so if you see a stopped police car, watch carefully for any officers who may be standing near it.

If you or a loved one has been involved in a New Hampshire pedestrian accident, you may be entitled to compensation from the person or company responsible for your injuries. Compensation can include payments for lost wages, medical treatment, rehabilitation, and more. Slippery Roads Contribute to Dozens of New Hampshire Motor Vehicle Accidents

By admin on January 6, 2010

The holiday season and the beginning of the New Year are packed full of parties and other gatherings, but it is also accompanied by inclement weather and increasingly dangerous driving conditions. According to a unionleader.com article, numerous traffic accidents resulting from poor weather conditions have taken place throughout New Hampshire as of late. Reportedly, even before the snowfall on December 5, 2009, dozens of cars had slid off of roadways, with injuries and even some fatalities taking place as a result.

The article discusses a pedestrian accident that took the life of an 85-year-old Barrington woman, struck by a vehicle driven by a 74-year-old motorist. Two men lost their lives in Rochester after being ejected from their vehicle in a traffic accident that involved striking a telephone pole. Allegedly, excessive speed and alcohol both played a factor in the crash. Another accident involved a motorist driving a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix that swerved into oncoming traffic, collided with a 2009 Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Route 302 at Crawford Notch was shut down for a stretch after eight vehicles reportedly slid off the road there. Dangerous road conditions, inclement weather, driver inattention, and reckless driving practice are all factors that can quickly lead to a New Hampshire car accident. All automobile accidents need to be carefully examined to determine their exact cause and whether or not negligent action was a contributing factor.

NH Jogger Injured in 2-Car Crash

By admin on July 7, 2009

New Hampshire’s WMUR Channel 9 recently reported in a story that a male jogger was seriously injured when two cars traveling in opposite directions collided with each other. A white car traveling southbound crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a black pickup that was traveling northbound. The collision caused the black pickup truck to spin out of control, and right into the path of the male jogger.

Though the jogger’s injuries were deemed serious, he was breathing at the scene of the pedestrian accident in New Hampshire. Police initially requested that the victim be airlifted from the scene, to allow for quicker medical care, but poor weather conditions prevented this. Instead, the victim was taken by ambulance to Lawrence General Hospital. No further information is available regarding the jogger’s condition.

Police speculate that the jogger, whose name has not yet been made public, was struck by the rear of the bed of the truck. A spare tire that was in the truck bed fell off of the truck bed and landed on the jogger. More specific details about the accident, in particular vehicular negligence and what exactly caused the white car to veer into oncoming traffic were not discussed.
